Bikepacking Maintenance 101: In this week’s video I speak with Ian Luck who is the ‘daglig leder’ (general manager) of one of Norway’s best bike workshops based in central Oslo. Ian has over two decades of experience with bike repairs and maintenance and is an avid bikepacker who has cycled all over Europe.
Listen to some of Ian’s advice and suggestions to ensure your bike is ready and prepared for cycling in Norway.
Rule 1: Know how to change a tire or plug a hole/refill sealant with a tubless setup.
Rule 2: Ensure you have a chain tool and chain link to fix a chain if it breaks.
Rule 3: Check all the bolts on the bike. Tighten anything loose.
Rule 4: Change or bring a spare set of brake pads on a long trip and make sure you know how to change them
Rule 5: Keep the bike clean, and oil the chain regularly. (Bring chain lube with you)
Rule 6: Check your chain for wear and tear before leaving.
Rule 7: Keep your tires at the right pressure (bring a tire valve adaptor so you can pump up at gas station).
