Hi Elli,
Yes the route is paved and can be done on a road bike.
As far as I’m aware, there are no significant roadworks on the route this year, but landslides and other disruptions can happen without notice.
You can keep updated with the public road administrations website map: http://www.vegvesen.no/trafikk/kart#/?lat=61.88607&lng=11.54438&zoom=4&layer=fer,tra,ctv,tfl
You can skip many sections using local buses, express boats, or the coastal cruise-liner Hurtigruten.
You will find info about these options under each section page. Go to the ‘Transport’ tab.

If you’re short on time, I recommend skipping parts where the weather is not on your side.
The main E6 road after the Lyngenalps to Alta or Olderfjord is my least favorite part and is unpleasant with traffic (take a bus).
I wish you a fantastic journey!
