Hi dear cyclists!
Planning to ride the Coast up north from next week on. I have a bit of a tight schedule and it is quite a way.
Does anyone know if the whole way is to ride on a road bike? Are there any enormous roadworks that couldn’t be passed by? Are there any smart shortcut options without missing the best beautiful parts?
Anyone on that road at the same time?
Cheers!
Elli.
Hi Elli,
Yes the route is paved and can be done on a road bike.
As far as I’m aware, there are no significant roadworks on the route this year, but landslides and other disruptions can happen without notice.
You can keep updated with the public road administrations website map: http://www.vegvesen.no/trafikk/kart#/?lat=61.88607&lng=11.54438&zoom=4&layer=fer,tra,ctv,tfl
You can skip many sections using local buses, express boats, or the coastal cruise-liner Hurtigruten.
You will find info about these options under each section page. Go to the ‘Transport’ tab.

If you’re short on time, I recommend skipping parts where the weather is not on your side.
The main E6 road after the Lyngenalps to Alta or Olderfjord is my least favorite part and is unpleasant with traffic (take a bus).
I wish you a fantastic journey!
Hi Matthew!!
Many thanks for your reply! Awesome!
I am in Førde now, and might skip the coast route from here and find a more direct way to Trondheim to save leg and time to spend it further up north.
I am in LOVE! This country is a blizz!
Cheers.
Elli
Hi Matthew me again,
tried to Export your gps data from Trondheim to Bodø as I want to send it too komoot or Wahoo. It always gives me an ‘error’ note. Would you mind sending the gps data?
Mans thanks.
Elli
Hi Elli,
Here is a Komoot version: https://www.komoot.com/tour/757606663?ref=wtd&share_token=aESADyzdQjV90siqtLi60epgkZQoCliegEqGs35F9itA9FIfKq
Please note, the first section from Trondheim to Namsos is really up tp you. Most of the roads are very quiet, and there are several ways to reach Namsos.
