Few places on Earth can compare to the stunning scenery found in Norway. Over the course of two days, we’ll embark on a journey through some of the most breathtaking valleys and mountain passes in the world.
We’ll meet at the historic 19th-century Philliphaugen Lodge on Thursday, September 12th. An evening buffet will be served, and we’ll brief you on the weekend’s itinerary. After getting to know your fellow riders and taking in the serene environment, we’ll start early the next day.
Day 1 (13.09.24): Aursjøvegen Loop (160km or 80km).
This unique journey has both a long or shorter route depending on your level and ability. It offers everything from epic gravel roads to high-raised mountains, majestic waterfalls, and lakes. Everywhere you look, there are stunning views. We’ll start with a coastal ride around a 6km car tunnel before heading into one of Norway’s best-kept secrets, Litldalen. The gravel begins here, climbing up to 900m before levelling off along a 75km barren mountain pass. The descent into another spectacular valley called Eikesdalen is a real highlight. We’ll find one of the tallest waterfalls in Europe and a stunning 18km lake that dominates the valley here. At the end of the valley, you have two options. If you arrived by car, complete the loop by heading back to Philliphaugen. If you arrived by other means, we suggest you head left towards Åndalsnes and find accommodation closer to the town.
For those staying for a second night at Philliphaugen, another evening meal will be served, and alcoholic drinks will be available for purchase. We’ll depart early the next day by car as Åndalsnes/Trollstigen is a 2-hour drive. Note: Transport to Åndalsnes is not included and you will require your own car/bike rack).
75km: Litedalen Explorer
Day 2 (14.09.24): Trollstigen/Valldalen (100km).
We’ll meet at Trollstigen Camping at 09:00, 10km from Åndalsnes, for another unforgettable day. Like last year, we’ll split the riders into two or three groups, with the slowest leaving first. The ride-up Trollstigen is unique and special, with 11 switchbacks taking you from 100m to 800m in under 7km. At the visitor center, we’ll meet for a group photo before another 1km of climbing takes us to the real summit. The 35km descent through Valldalen Valley to the fjord below is again one for the memory banks, with autumn colours on display. After a brief stop in Valldal village, we’ll turn around, cycle back up the world-famous road, and descend Trollstigen.
In the evening, there will be a meal, presentation, and prizes at the Eggen Restaurant, high up on a mountain overlooking Åndalsnes. This is a great way to end the weekend event. Those who want to continue into the night can hit the local nightlife in Åndalsnes.
