Aursjøvegen Weekend

Few places on Earth can compare to the stunning scenery found in Norway. Over the course of two days, we’ll embark on a journey through some of the most breathtaking valleys, mountain passes, and coastal landscape in the world.

We’ll meet at the historic 19th-century Phillipshaugen Lodge on Thursday, September 12th. An evening buffet will be served, and we’ll brief you on the weekend’s itinerary. After getting to know your fellow riders and taking in the serene environment, we’ll start early the next day.

Day 1 (13.09.24): Aursjøvegen Loop (160km or 90km).

This unique journey has both a long or shorter route depending on your level and ability. It offers everything from epic gravel roads to high-raised mountains, majestic waterfalls, and lakes. Everywhere you look, there are stunning views. We’ll start with a coastal ride around a 6km car tunnel before heading into one of Norway’s best-kept secrets, Litldalen. The gravel begins here, climbing up to 900m before levelling off along a 75km barren mountain pass. The descent into another spectacular valley called Eikesdalen is a real highlight. We’ll find one of the tallest waterfalls in Europe and a stunning 18km lake that dominates the valley here. At the end of the valley, we head back along a fjord to Phillipshaugen. 

The second night at Phillipshaugen will include another evening buffet and alcoholic drinks will be available for purchase. 

We’ll depart early the next day by car as The Atlantic Ocean Road (AOR) is a 2-hour drive. Note: Transport to AOR is not included and you will require your own car/bike rack).

92km: Litedalen Explorer 

Day 2 (14.09.24): Atlantic Ocean Road (92km or 50km)

We will leave Phillipshaugen around 09:00 and drive to a free car park on the Atlantic Ocean road. From there we’ll set the bikes up and and ride a loop of the coast with magnificent views of the surrounding area (roughly 90km). On returning to the car park our bikes will be stored in a locked shed or in your car. A private boat will then pick us up and take us to an exclusive island where our accommodation and evening meal will be served.

Single Person: Range from 4500 – 7500 NOK two nights shared accommodation and one night private or three nights private room.

Phillipshaugen Lodge: Øksendalsvegen 420, 6610 Øksendal. (12-14th Sept)

• We recommend you arrive in the afternoon or early evening of Thursday, 12th of September.
• Shared rooms have 4 single beds. Bed linen and towels are included. Several shared bathrooms are located on the same floor.
• Dorm rooms will be gender segregated. Friends can request a mixed room if required.
• Twin/Double rooms are subject to availability and have shared bathrooms.
• Evening Buffet will be served around 19:00 on the Thursday and Friday evenings
• Welcome and event briefing at 20:00 on Thursday.
• Breakfast and take-away lunch can be purchased for an additional fee at reception on arrival.
• Free parking is available on-site. No pets are allowed.
• The nearest food shop is in Sunndalsøra, 14km away.
• To reach the Atlantic Ocean Road on Saturday 14th, we recommend leaving no later than 09:00 am.

Atlantic Ocean road 11:00 am 

• The group ride begins at 11:00 am Håholmen Parking and will last around 5-6 hours, including coffee stop. 
• At roughly 17:00 we will be picked up by a boat where the cars are parked and taken to Håholmen hotel.
• A three-course dinner is at 19:30 (time may be subject to change).

• Getting to Phillipshaugen Lodge
  • The lodge is located in a remote place, and a car is the best way to reach it. Phillipshaugen Lodge: Øksendalsvegen 420, 6610 Øksendal.
  • Nearest Train Station: Oppdal (89km) – You can cycle down the beautiful Sunndalen valley from there. 
  • Buses from Molde go to Øksendal, a small village close to the lodge.
  • The nearest airport is either Molde or Ålesund (1.5/2 hour drive)
  • The lodge is a 6.5-hour drive from Oslo 
  • NOTE: You will be required to get to the Atlantic Ocean Road by your own means and thus a car is recommended!
• Getting to the Atlantic Ocean Road
  • It is approx 1.45hr drive from Phillipshaugen Lodge. You require to be there before 11 am on Saturday 14th sept. Driving is the only realistic way of reaching it.
