Bygdin Loop

Wild with a capital W is the best way to describe this short but spectacular route. Stay a night at the splendid Bygdin Mountain Hotel and enjoy a homemade breakfast with freshly baked bread. Then, jump on the 09:05 boat down the incredible Bygdin Mountain lake with mountain views all around. At the other end, you’re straight on to hardpacked gravel guiding you through the outskirts of Jotunheimen National Park. On reaching the main road, you’re taken off again onto gravel towards Beitostølen.

If you’re up for the challenge, on the way back, take the gravel road over Slettefjell, where views of the national park are fit for a king. The last section back to Bygdin is on Scenic Road Valdresflye (paved). More magnificent scenery will follow you back to the mountain cabin. This route can be used as part of Mjølkevegen, either as a detour around Slettefjellet or as an added section where you will then get to climb Slettefjellet from both sides and explore more of the area before heading to Gol or Vinstra.
