Gjøvik – Oslo – Gravel
The ride from Gjøvik to Oslo follows a quiet stretch of gravel that winds through forest, farmland, and small villages, with very little traffic from start to finish. The mix of surfaces keeps it interesting: smooth gravel lanes, rocky sections that need a bit of care, duckboards over soft ground, and grassy tracks that feel more like paths than roads. It’s long enough to feel like a proper day out, but still easy to manage thanks to train access at both ends.
Along the way you pass through areas that played an important role during the Second World War. Forest clearings and cabins around Harestua and Rudsæter once hid resistance groups, radio posts, and supply drops. Stormyra, just off the route, was even the site of a major airdrop in 1944. You wouldn’t know it at first glance the forest has long since closed back in, but with a bit of background the ride takes on another layer. What was once a place for hiding and moving supplies is now a calm stretch of gravel enjoyed by locals looking for a traffic-free adventure.
