I’ve been following EV1 on my way to Alesund and presently in Maloy. The weather has turned pretty nasty but I need to make even a little progress. EV1 follows the coast but with heavy rain and NW wind with up to 40mph gusts the alternative road EV15 looks a safer bet as it’s shorter, less climbing and will put the wind on my quarter. Can anyone tell me if this road has any tunnels or is overly busy to cycle on? Cheers
Hi Christine,
There is an extreme weather warning in place right now, and my advice would be to sit it out in Måløy for a few days. If you are in a rush to get to Ålesund, you could take the Hurtigruten boat from Måløy. I think it arrives 05:30 every morning and departs at 05:45.

In regards to the EV15. It is a main road but usually not very busy (except perhaps for rush hour 07-09 / 16-18). There are three tunnels you must cycle through heading to Ålesund. They are around 400m, 500m, and 700m long and should be fine to cycle through with lights and a reflective vest on.
Safe travels.
Thank you for the prompt response and advice. It was not very pleasant but I went for it and am now warm and dry again. Taking the main road route meant I was sheltered from the worst of the wind until the last 3 miles. I definitely would not have managed on the Eurovelo route along the northerly coast. Thanks again. Christine
