Askvoll to Florø - Cycle Norway

Hey,

Is there any posdibility at the moment to skip the Fjord with Førde by ferry?
The maps show that there is a ferry route, but all the websites they that it is no longer avaible.

Sadly there is no ferry available to skip Road 5 to Fløre.

But you can take a local bus from Førde to Fløre with your bike. http://www.skyss.no/globalassets/reise/rutetabellar/buss/haustruter2022/ytre-sunnfjord/250.pdf

If you are heading south, I’m sure local buses are going down the other side of the fjord. http://www.skyss.no/

Hey Matthew,

it turned out there is: You can go by Expressboat from Askvoll to Florø or directly to Smørhamn. I did this yesterday in the evening.

The boat goes twice a day during Monday to Friday and at least once during the weekend.

Sorry, I misunderstood you. I thought you meant from actually Førde skipping road 5 to Florø.

The boat you are referring to is certainly very handy to skip sections of the coast.

You make a very good point regarding the Eurovelo 1 route. For a lot of people, it might be best to take the boat from Askvoll so they don’t have to cycle Road 5 or worry about the closed tunnel bypass near Førde. Thanks for pointing this out. I will add it to the route info page.
