Capital to Mountains Gravel Loop
If you’re craving an authentic gravel adventure off the beaten path, you’ve found your match. This meticulously planned route promises a truly immersive experience. Starting from the capital, Oslo, your journey kicks off in the serene Nordmarka woods, gradually leading you down to Hønefoss. Don’t forget to stock up on supplies before heading northwest along tranquil country roads, soon transitioning to rugged gravel paths.
Over the next 150 kilometers, you’ll meander through dirt tracks and unmarked roads, weaving amidst pristine forests, calm lakes, and vast highlands. This remote landscape offers a wilderness encounter unlike any other within a day’s journey from Oslo. As you ascend beyond 800 meters, expect the occasional sighting of mountain sheep and perhaps even a mighty moose as your only companions.
Upon reaching a paved road a well deserved shop will appear, take a momentary break before diving back into gravel terrain along the panoramic route through Golsfjellet. The epic Fanitullvegen gravel pass and cycling route number 4 will lead you back towards the Oslo region.
As you wrap up this adventure, lesser-known forest gravel roads take you over a modest mountain pass, that descends gracefully back into the heart of Oslo. With over 500 kilometres of pure bikepacking joy, this route guarantees an unforgettable expedition few will ever encounter.
