I plan a 3-5 day tour from Ålesund to Geiranger and back in May. I’d like to start using the “Norangsdalen Rundt” from Ålesund to Hellesylt and then:
Option 1 – Ferry Hellesylt to Geiranger
Option 2 – Cyling Hellesylt to Geiranger (124 km/2200 alt), worth it?
Hike and camp one night on Homlungsaetra.
Also, some options for the return way to Ålesund:
Option 3 – Ferry from Geiranger to Ålesund
Option 4 – Ferry from Geiranger to Hellesylt and finish the “Norangsdalen Rundt” from Hellesylt through Sykkylven to Ålesund (94 km/1350 alt), worth it?
According to Matthew’s descriptions the part from Ålesund through Norangsdalen valley to Hellesylt is an absloute “must cycle”. But Im not sure if a ferry through the fjords back to Ålesund is the better alternative than cycling.
Maybe its an option too, to start with a ferry from Ålesund to Geiranger and cycle back to Ålesund through Norangsdalen valley…
Also Matthew, on your travel log you wrote “Only Geiranger Rundt can match this epic adventure along the fjords and through one of the greatest valleys on the planet.” I couldnt find anything about a Geiranger Rundt. Do you have more information about this tour?
Thanks for your help and recommendations
