Det var her Norges industrielle historie f\u00f8rst fikk fotfeste, ikke gjennom fabrikker samlet i byer, men gjennom elver som skar dypt inn i innlandet. Veiene du sykler her, ble formet av t\u00f8mmer, sagbruk og tidlig industri lenge f\u00f8r olje redefinerte landet. ett sekund av ruten blir brukt av forsvaret til visse tider av \u00e5ret til trening. Grusveiene er brede, rolige og tilsynelatende uber\u00f8rte, og g\u00e5r gjennom dype skogomr\u00e5der og \u00e5pne utmarksomr\u00e5der der tiden f\u00f8les strukket ut. Historien annonserer seg sjelden. I stedet dukker den opp stille \u2013 en gammel g\u00e5rdssti, en steingrunn i tr\u00e6rne, en industribygning som har overlevd sitt form\u00e5l. Ruten peker ikke p\u00e5 disse tingene. Skog \u00e5pner seg til daler, for s\u00e5 \u00e5 lukke seg igjen mot h\u00f8yere terreng. Til tider f\u00f8les skalaen nesten nordamerikansk; til andre, umiskjennelig skandinavisk. Lange, smale innsj\u00f8er rammet inn av bratte fjell kan ligne fjorder, inntil du innser at du er dypt inne i landet, p\u00e5 vei gjennom et landskap formet utelukkende av vann og h\u00f8yde. Dalen er det lengste vestlige punktet p\u00e5 ruten og et flott sted \u00e5 stoppe og ta innover seg reisen. Innsj\u00f8en som ligger ved siden av byen har en kjent badstue du kan bestille for 1 time for rundt 35 euro. Kanalen var en gang et av Norges mest ambisi\u00f8se industriprosjekter p\u00e5 1800-tallet. En stund guider kanalen bevegelsene dine, en p\u00e5minnelse om hvordan varer, t\u00f8mmer og mennesker en gang beveget seg gjennom denne regionen f\u00f8r veinettet ble bygget. Herfra kan du koble deg p\u00e5 Rute 3 tilbake mot Oslo, eller ta toget \u00f8stover og vende tilbake til den moderne verden med en helt annen f\u00f8lelse av avstand og tempo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rute 2 er ikke et sted du haster forbi. Det er en rute du absorberer. St\u00f8yen og hastverket i det 21. \u00e5rhundre f\u00f8les stadig mer irrelevant etter hvert som kilometerne passerer.
