Des for\u00eats sans fin, une toundra ouverte et des cieux qui semblent interminables. Mais pour le cycliste aventureux, il offre une beaut\u00e9 brute, des histoires oubli\u00e9es et une solitude difficile \u00e0 trouver ailleurs en Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">Mon p\u00e9riple a couvert plus de 2 300 kilom\u00e8tres \u00e0 travers l'Arctique et la Laponie, d\u00e9butant dans l'est de la Finlande pour se terminer en Su\u00e8de, avec une section exigeante en Norv\u00e8ge entre les deux. La Finlande m'a offert des for\u00eats paisibles, des chemins de gravier rustiques et des routes bord\u00e9es de rennes. La Norv\u00e8ge a mis \u00e0 l'\u00e9preuve mon endurance avec ses hauts plateaux, son vent froid et une d\u00e9solation qui a pouss\u00e9 mon \u00e9quipement \u00e0 ses limites. Lorsque j'ai atteint la Su\u00e8de, le paysage s'est l\u00e9g\u00e8rement adouci, mais le sentiment d'isolement persistait.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">Chaque pays a apport\u00e9 un changement, pas seulement dans le paysage, mais dans l'atmosph\u00e8re. C'\u00e9tait un test d'endurance, mais aussi une rare occasion de se d\u00e9connecter et de traverser l'une des derni\u00e8res v\u00e9ritables r\u00e9gions sauvages d'Europe. Les jours passaient sans que l'on croise personne. N'ayant jamais h\u00e9sit\u00e9 \u00e0 relever un d\u00e9fi, il recherche des voyages \u00e9piques qui le m\u00e8nent bien au-del\u00e0 de l'ordinaire, sur deux roues et hors des sentiers battus.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>EuroVelo 13 : La Route de la Rideau de Fer<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mon voyage a commenc\u00e9 par une balade tranquille sur les routes de campagne finlandaises, me menant \u00e0 Suomussalmi, o\u00f9 j'ai rejoint la EuroVelo 13 \u201c Iron Curtain Trail \u201d. Cet itin\u00e9raire suit la fronti\u00e8re historique de la Guerre Froide et s'\u00e9tend du sud de la Finlande jusqu'\u00e0 la fronti\u00e8re norv\u00e9gienne. Dans cette r\u00e9gion, il suit en grande partie la Route 843, un tron\u00e7on calme et rural qui serpente \u00e0 travers des for\u00eats profondes et des paysages lacustres tranquilles. Pendant les premiers jours, le trajet \u00e9tait fluide, le trafic quasi inexistant, et le paysage, bien que beau, \u00e9tait suffisamment r\u00e9p\u00e9titif pour \u00e9mousser les \/>\n\t\t\t<\/svg>\n\t\t<\/button><\/div><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Le sentier offrait peu de variations sur de longues \u00e9tendues, et rejoignait finalement la plus fr\u00e9quent\u00e9e E63. Bien que pas id\u00e9al pour le v\u00e9lo, il n'y a parfois pas le choix lorsqu'on traverse des terrains peu peupl\u00e9s. Cela dit, les automobilistes finlandais \u00e9taient pour la plupart courtois.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote has-text-align-center has-black-color has-cyan-bluish-gray-background-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-c088a7df703afb06023b5a337129bb2b\" style=\"border-style:none;border-width:0px;border-radius:30px\"><blockquote><p><em>\u201cDu pont, vous pouvez voir la rive russe \u00e0 quelques centaines<\/em><br><em> m\u00e8tres. Il n'y a aucun signe d'habitation, juste des arbres silencieux. <\/em><br><em>C'\u00e9tait l'un des plus \u00e9tranges,<\/em> <em>les moments les plus stimulants du voyage.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Apr\u00e8s avoir pass\u00e9 le parc national de Hossa, un endroit incroyable pour la randonn\u00e9e ou le VTT, j'ai quitt\u00e9 la route principale et me suis aventur\u00e9 sur les pistes de gravier le long de la fronti\u00e8re russe. Ces routes variaient consid\u00e9rablement : certaines \u00e9taient fra\u00eechement nivel\u00e9es, d'autres deeply rutted ou instables avec des pierres. J'ai roul\u00e9 en zigzag, montant et descendant \u00e0 travers d'infinies for\u00eats bor\u00e9ales. Il y avait peu de villages, pas de caf\u00e9s, et \u00e0 peine une \u00e2me en vue. Les fronti\u00e8res finno-russes regorgent de monuments aux morts et de vestiges d'anciens syst\u00e8mes de d\u00e9fense. En 1940, des dizaines de milliers de Finlandais ont construit une ligne de d\u00e9fense massive de 1\u00a0200 km pour se pr\u00e9munir d'une possible invasion sovi\u00e9tique. Beaucoup des \u00e9normes rochers et bunkers qu'ils ont install\u00e9s se dressent encore cach\u00e9s parmi les arbres, t\u00e9moins silencieux des luttes pass\u00e9es.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Certains de ces endroits ont disparu de la m\u00e9moire collective. Ils sont envahis par la v\u00e9g\u00e9tation, rouillent, sont bris\u00e9s, mais toujours puissants. Les for\u00eats ont fait place \u00e0 des collines plus spectaculaires, des vall\u00e9es fluviales et des zones mar\u00e9cageuses occasionnelles. La route ondulait constamment. Pas de grosses mont\u00e9es, mais le d\u00e9nivel\u00e9 continu a mis \u00e0 rude \u00e9preuve les jambes. Chaque cr\u00eate offrait une vue sur plus d'arbres et plus de ciel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>L'E75 et la Pouss\u00e9e vers le Nord<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Au nord de Sodankyl\u00e4, les options sont devenues limit\u00e9es. Pendant 90 km, j'ai \u00e9t\u00e9 contraint de prendre l'E75, une art\u00e8re principale sans v\u00e9ritables d\u00e9tours possibles. Il n'y a pas grand-chose \u00e0 en dire, juste baisser la t\u00eate, mouliner des jambes, les yeux fix\u00e9s sur l'accotement. C'\u00e9tait un mal n\u00e9cessaire pour atteindre la prochaine \u00e9tape du voyage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apr\u00e8s Ivalo, le voyage prit un nouveau caract\u00e8re. Alors que la plupart des voyageurs se dirigeant vers Kirkenes contournent le lac Inari par l'ouest, j'ai pris la route moins fr\u00e9quent\u00e9e, la 969, vers l'est en direction de Nellim. Il n'y avait aucun signe d'habitation, juste des arbres silencieux. Ce fut l'un des moments les plus \u00e9tranges et les plus stimulants du voyage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La route de gravier continuait sur 20 km, sinueuse et d\u00e9serte. Finalement, j'atteignis la zone frontali\u00e8re finlandaise, une zone restreinte o\u00f9 aucun civil ne peut entrer. Il alternait entre des sections praticables et un terrain impraticable rempli de rochers, de passerelles en bois pourries, d'arbres tomb\u00e9s et de marais profonds. Parfois, je devais tra\u00eener mon v\u00e9lo dans la boue, d'autres fois, le porter \u00e0 bout de bras sur des pentes raides. Sa pr\u00e9sence avait quelque chose de fantomatique, rappelant \u00e0 quel point ce chemin \u00e9tait autrefois isol\u00e9, et l&#x27;est toujours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le sentier refusait d'\u00eatre pr\u00e9visible. \u00c0 un moment donn\u00e9, il semblait \u00eatre un chemin d\u00e9gag\u00e9 sur un sol ferme ; quelques minutes plus tard, je pataugeais dans l'eau de marais jusqu'aux chevilles, essayant de ne pas perdre une chaussure. Chaque kilom\u00e8tre demandait une concentration totale et un effort physique. C'est un modeste tas de pierres, mais d'une grande importance symbolique. Il marque le point exact de rencontre de la Finlande, de la Norv\u00e8ge et de la Russie. Deux jeunes soldats norv\u00e9giens m'ont salu\u00e9, surpris de voir quelqu'un arriver \u00e0 v\u00e9lo depuis la Finlande. Les premiers kilom\u00e8tres \u00e9taient difficiles, avec des rochers irr\u00e9guliers et encore des passerelles en bois. J&#x27;ai fini par rejoindre une route en gravier que j&#x27;ai suivie vers le nord, pour camper pr\u00e8s de la r\u00e9serve naturelle de Pasvik.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Je n'ai pas eu de r\u00e9seau t\u00e9l\u00e9phonique pendant plus de 24 heures, une exp\u00e9rience rare en Scandinavie. Cela m'a fait r\u00e9aliser \u00e0 quel point nous sommes devenus connect\u00e9s, m\u00eame dans la nature sauvage. Elle est cahoteuse, parsem\u00e9e de rustines par endroits, et g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement d\u00e9serte. De temps \u00e0 autre, j\u2019apercevais la Russie de l\u2019autre c\u00f4t\u00e9 du fleuve. La pr\u00e9sence militaire \u00e9tait amicale, discr\u00e8te. Nous avons \u00e9chang\u00e9 des hochements de t\u00eate, et j'ai continu\u00e9 mon chemin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ce soir-l\u00e0, la route menait \u00e0 de grands lacs et \u00e0 de profondes vall\u00e9es. Le paysage s'ouvrait \u00e0 nouveau, et un soleil dor\u00e9 du soir projetait une lueur sur l'eau. Je me suis arr\u00eat\u00e9 pour photographier des rennes qui broutaient au bord de la route. Les lacs sont devenus plus grands. Finalement, j'ai roul\u00e9 le long du Langfjord sous le soleil dor\u00e9. La route \u00e9tait d\u00e9serte, le paysage \u00e9tait vaste. Quand j'ai atteint Kirkenes, j'ai saut\u00e9 le centre-ville et j'ai continu\u00e9 dans les collines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00c0 Korsfjord, des rennes broutaient au bord de la route. L\u00e0, j'ai rencontr\u00e9 Fetze, un cycliste qui se dirigeait vers Pasvik. Son \u00e9quipement \u00e9tait bien mieux adapt\u00e9 aux routes non goudronn\u00e9es. J'ai ensuite visit\u00e9 le mus\u00e9e sami \u00c4\u2019vv Skolt, qui offre un aper\u00e7u approfondi de la culture et de l'artisanat du peuple sami Skolt. Ils avaient des r\u00e9pliques de vieux bateaux fluviaux, fabriqu\u00e9s pour des courants sp\u00e9cifiques et des techniques de p\u00eache. De l\u00e0, j'ai grimp\u00e9 jusqu'\u00e0 Saviostolen, un rocher en forme de si\u00e8ge o\u00f9 l'artiste Sami John Savio a jadis trouv\u00e9 l'inspiration. Des rennes broutaient \u00e0 proximit\u00e9. La vue sur le fjord et les marais en contrebas semblait intemporelle. C'\u00e9tait une simple promenade mais un puissant moment de perspective, loin du v\u00e9lo et de la route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>De retour en selle, je me suis dirig\u00e9 vers le Varangerfjord. La route serpentait le long de vagues d\u00e9ferlantes et de falaises imposantes. Le vent ralentissait ma progression, mais la lumi\u00e8re changeante et les paysages spectaculaires compensaient. Au mus\u00e9e Sami de Varanger, je me suis arr\u00eat\u00e9 pour d\u00eener dans un abri public. Une mont\u00e9e abrupte de 160 m\u00e8tres m'a ramen\u00e9 \u00e0 l'int\u00e9rieur des terres. Bient\u00f4t, la c\u00f4te du Varanger a c\u00e9d\u00e9 la place \u00e0 la large et tranquille vall\u00e9e de la rivi\u00e8re Tana. Ici, le paysage a encore chang\u00e9 : de larges bancs de sable, des for\u00eats de pins et un rythme plus lent et plus r\u00e9fl\u00e9chi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>J'ai mont\u00e9 ma tente tard sur les berges de la rivi\u00e8re. Mon corps avait besoin de repos. Finalement, j'ai continu\u00e9 jusqu'\u00e0 Rustefjelbma, o\u00f9 j'ai trouv\u00e9 du caf\u00e9 et un repas chaud \u00e0 la station-service. De l\u00e0, la route tournait vers l'ouest, serpentant sans fin \u00e0 travers des lacs, la toundra et de basses cr\u00eates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>J'ai rencontr\u00e9 un cycliste n\u00e9erlandais arrivant en sens inverse. Il m'a pr\u00e9venu de la pluie et du froid, mais alors que nous nous s\u00e9parions, le soleil a perc\u00e9 les nuages. Ma prochaine \u00e9tape fut Rullesteinfj\u00e6ra, une plage isol\u00e9e o\u00f9 les vagues polissent des pierres de toutes formes et couleurs. La randonn\u00e9e faisait un peu plus de 2 km aller-retour, \u00e0 travers des sentiers accident\u00e9s et des sections mar\u00e9cageuses, mais l'endroit lui-m\u00eame semblait Je suis rest\u00e9 assis l\u00e0 pendant une heure \u00e0 ne rien faire d'autre que de regarder la mar\u00e9e, compl\u00e8tement absorb\u00e9 par le rythme de l'eau et de la pierre. Sur le chemin du retour, j'ai remarqu\u00e9 que chaque pas sur les galets cr\u00e9ait sa propre musique discr\u00e8te.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Au c\u0153ur du Nordkyn<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Il \u00e9tait tard lorsque j'ai entrepris la longue ascension du plateau d'Ifjordfjellet. La lumi\u00e8re rasait les collines, projetant de longues ombres et illuminant des troupeaux de rennes. La route serpentait plus haut \u00e0 travers un paysage froid et solitaire parsem\u00e9 de plaques de neige et de broussailles rocheuses. \u00c0 Ifjord, j'ai pris la route 888, qui serpente sur 33 km le long du Laksefjord.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Je chevauchai dans la nuit, le soleil de minuit toujours suspendu au-dessus de l'horizon. La temp\u00e9rature avait chut\u00e9. J'ai mis toutes les couches de v\u00eatements que j'avais et j'ai rapidement pli\u00e9 bagage, les doigts engourdis, la tente tremp\u00e9e. Le vent venait du nord et m'a malmen\u00e9 pendant la majeure partie de la journ\u00e9e.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La route monta \u00e0 nouveau, cette fois-ci devant Reinoksevannet, un lac encore partiellement gel\u00e9 en fin d'\u00e9t\u00e9. La terre \u00e9tait nue, parsem\u00e9e de vieilles cong\u00e8res et de ruisseaux aliment\u00e9s par les glaciers. Le soleil et la gr\u00eale alternaient toutes les quelques minutes. La route remonta, raide et implacable, vers le plateau final avant Mehamn. Ici, le temps est roi, et le paysage donne l'impression d'\u00eatre plus pr\u00e8s du bout du monde que presque partout en Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finalement, la route plong\u00e9 vers la c\u00f4te et j'ai roul\u00e9 jusque dans Mehamn en fin de journ\u00e9e. J'ai eu l'impression que c'\u00e9tait la fin de quelque chose. J'\u00e9tais venu si loin vers le nord. Je n'avais gu\u00e8re r\u00e9fl\u00e9chi au d\u00e9nivel\u00e9 lorsque j'ai ajout\u00e9 Slettnes fyr \u00e0 l'itin\u00e9raire dans Koomot : c'est plus de 50 kilom\u00e8tres avec 850 m\u00e8tres de d\u00e9nivel\u00e9. La route monte et descend constamment, avec de belles vues sur la mer de Barents, des vall\u00e9es majestueuses et de nombreux, nombreux rennes un peu partout. Sur le dernier tron\u00e7on, du village de Gamvik au phare, le paysage est totalement vierge, et au bout, on aper\u00e7oit l'oc\u00e9an infini. J'\u00e9tais tellement heureux d'y \u00eatre arriv\u00e9 avant la fermeture du caf\u00e9 r\u00e9cemment r\u00e9nov\u00e9 dans la maison du gardien de phare. Mais les portes \u00e9taient verrouill\u00e9es. La frustration \u00e9tait immense lorsque je me tenais l\u00e0 dans le vent froid, \u00e9puis\u00e9 apr\u00e8s la longue lutte contre les \u00e9l\u00e9ments. Je me pr\u00e9parais d\u00e9j\u00e0 mentalement \u00e0 la longue route du retour vers Mehamn, quand une jeune femme est arriv\u00e9e en courant, a ouvert la porte et m'a chaleureusement accueilli. Le voyage semblait interminable. Parfois, je ne savais pas si je luttais contre le terrain ou le temps, ou les deux. Il n'y a pas d'arbres, pas d'abri, seulement le vent et le ciel. Des rennes d\u00e9rivent comme des fant\u00f4mes \u00e0 travers les plaques de neige. La route ondule \u00e0 l'infini. C'est l\u00e0 que j'ai r\u00e9alis\u00e9 \u00e0 quel point mes jambes r\u00e9clamaient une pause.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En descendant vers Alta, on avait l'impression de rentrer dans un autre monde. J'ai travers\u00e9 des ruisseaux, roul\u00e9 dans des sections inond\u00e9es et tra\u00een\u00e9 le v\u00e9lo sur des collines rocailleuses.
