The first time I cycled from Bergen to Nordkapp<\/strong> I had absolutely no idea what I was doing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was the summer of 2020<\/strong>. The world had just slammed on the brakes. Borders were shutting, flights were cancelled, and cities were silent. Norway felt unusually empty, and the Atlantic coast, normally buzzing with tourists, was almost mine alone. Strange circumstances\u2026 but the perfect moment to discover this famous route at its rawest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every day the scenery hit me harder than the one before. I\u2019d wake up stronger, hungrier for the road ahead, convinced I\u2019d seen the best of it, and then the next day would tear up that belief completely. The coastline never repeats itself. It rises, it twists, it surprises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But that lack of crowds also meant no guidance<\/strong>. I rode blind into a lot of situations. Tight tunnels I didn\u2019t even know existed. Roads busier than expected at the worst times of day. Campsites hidden up side roads I flew straight past. I rushed through places that deserved days, not minutes. And I missed countless things that were just around the corner, simply because I didn\u2019t know they were there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s the truth about this route: 10% is the line you see on a map.
The other 90% is what the route throws at you \u2014 good and bad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not knowing that 90% costs you time, money, experiences, and sometimes safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That ride is a big reason why Cycle Norway exists today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Version One Wasn\u2019t Enough<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In 2023, I built the first Full Story<\/strong> pages for the Atlantic Coast route. It was the first time the famous route had been fully documented. They have been a great help to hundreds of cyclists over the past few years, but when I looked at them again earlier this year, I knew they needed updating. So much has happened in just a few years and if you stand still you become outdated very quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Traffic patterns shift. Tunnels close, open, and upgrade. Ferries adjust their schedules, link disappear, and costs change. Even hiking rules and wild-camping restrictions evolve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And tourists? They discover new places overnight. The tourism business is constantly evolving. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So in early November, I started again. Not a tweak. A full rebuild.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What It Took<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Weeks of tedious, detailed work, Cross-checking routes, Editing maps, adding practical warnings nobody else tells you about, Digging through old notes and emails, and personal field reports. Listing real dangers, not pretending everything is perfect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The hardest part was building the new interactive POI maps<\/strong>. This is complex technology and difficult to get right at times. It takes days to perfect one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
