I waited in Måløy for an hour to pick up suppliers and at 7 am off I headed up the coast.

I had no idea what to expect and was unsure if this route would compete with other areas of Norway. After about 20km I realized I should never question or doubt Norway! The views even in bad weather were getting better every kilometer I cycled. By the time I reach the Vestkapp peninsular, I was pulling out my camera every 2 minutes. The whole area has a unique feel with mountains raising up from the fjords, small protected coves with sandy beaches, and lakes and forests covering the inner parts of the coast. But Vestkapp is the icing on the cake.

Norway’s most western point is a small mountain raising 500m up from the Atlantic Ocean. The 5-kilometer climb up is very hard averaging 10% for most of the way. BUT the views are incredible at every turn! When I reached the summit I could have stayed there all day! On the southern side, you have views of a very barren mountain range brown in colour and unique to this area of the country. On the northern side are higher snow-capped mountains with all the grace and dignity a mountain range can offer. Lastly, facing west you have the great vast Atlantic Ocean stretching as far as the eyes can see. What a place to ride a bike!

Tomorrow we ride to Ålesund island hopping along the way.
